HISTORY: -

The 2170 Class Clyde Diesel Locomotive was produced to haul Export Coal on Central Queensland Coal lines. The locomotives also worked up the Toowoomba Range and towards the end were used on Brisbane Suburban Passenger Trains hauling Evans Wooden Coaches, (side load) and also the Stainless Steel Cars. The locomotives were also known to haul the Long-Distance Trains, (Lander Cars). There were 11 locomotives, which were with Transition Couplers and had a weight of 97 Tonnes. When the 2170 Class first came into service in the mid 1970’s and they were fitted by full length Handrails down the Long End. Queensland Government Railways were the only state Railway to commence a locomotive class at “0”. In the mid 1990’s the Class were receiving the Driver only low nose. Towards the end of the 1990’s they were being converted with many other Class units to the 2300 Class Diesels. The locomotive carried the Blue, White and Grey colours and also the Bronco (Corp.) colour scheme. For more information, refer to the many books produced by Railmac, A.R.H.S. Qld., and photos.
